Welcome to Year 5
We started our Summer term working with Historic England. They invited us to help them with a filming project looking at mining in our local area - which we have worked on in Year 5, particularly the Nine Men of Madeley disaster. We welcomed Martin Phillips and his film crew into our classroom where we were filmed watching a presentation about local mines and "Kids in Pits" by three local miners.
They had lots of interesting tales and facts to tell us and they even let us try on their equipment! Later that day we were filmed visiting St. Michael's Church, Madeley where we were able to talk further with our visitors and remember the nine men.
Some of us even had a go at filming!
Year 5 also enjoyed being interviewed by the film crew, sharing their thoughts about mining and why it is so important that we should learn about our local heritage. We can't wait to share the film with you once it has been edited!
We have had such a busy start to our year!
